Emmitt Makes Progress
For the first time since we took Emm in last July, he is sitting on my lap and rubbing my hand with his face while I work on the computer this morning. It is a beautiful, sweet moment for him and me.
When he first entered the house he was suffering terrible physiological effects of near death by starvation. His fur was course, dull and falling out in great hunks. His sight was not so good and he was very unsteady on his feet, falling over frequently. He had absolutely no trust in humans and even acted fearful of my husband and me. I expected him to eat ravenously but surprisingly, he would eat very little and cry an awful lot.
Today, he eats with a good appetite, his favorite food being a little bit of fresh ground sirloin. His hair is soft, silky and shiny and doesn't fall out anymore. He talks to us all the time. And very best of all, he comes right up to my feet and rubs my legs cooing all the while. He trusts us now and WANTS to be touched and loved. It's been a long road and he still suffers some ill effects.....he's still a little unsteady on his feet sometimes and has bouts of diahrrea. But for the most part, he's a happy boy.
Someone abandoned him. We know this because he is declawed and shows no skills whatsoever in hunting. The vet says he was definitely a kept kitty at one point. I don't understand people who can do these things.
But Emm's story has a happy ending and I wanted to share it with you all. I know how much you all love animals and I wanted to make people smile today. Emm's still on my lap, still cooing and I will love and care for him until his last breath. He's our gift and we are grateful for him.

Awwww Evelyn, how your story DID make me smile!! Could it be possible that he got lost, and never trusted people so he never found a home till you? (did you get that?..hehe) I hope you didn't already explain this in another post and I am having a blond moment... ....Poor little guy....I am so glad that he DID find you!! Give him a pat from Lucy!!
What a sweet, sweet story Evelyn! Thanks so much for the smile this morning.

I love rescue stories and after nearly 10 years of following stories concerning rescued pugs, I'm convinced the rescued animal never forgets someone saved them.
If you have ordinary pets that have always known comfort and love in the same home with an animal that has been rescued from what usually amounts to neglect and/or abuse, you can see a difference in almost everything they do and I personally don't believe the rescued pet ever takes anything for granted. A warm dry bed, a good meal, a tender touch have to be Heaven on earth to any animal who has known hard times.
Emmit is very lucky and I'll bet he knows it!
