Chris- I feel for you- one of my dogs got sprayed several
years ago, and ran inside without me seeing him-
I was sure I had a skunk in the house, and wound up
leaving all the doors open while I went to work!!
I groom dogs and have used all of the old recipes,
tomato juice, lemon, and all the commercial ones.
nothing works like this one, it was supposedly developed
by a chemist whose dog had been skunked!
I have used this many times, and it obliterates the smell
in just one bath.
de skunking recipe re:
Kansas State Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital
mix well:
1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide (make sure its 3%)
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon liquid soap(dawn works well)
saturate animal in this mixture- (you can put mineral oil
drops in eyes to protect them if animal is sprayed on head.)
let soak for 5 minutes
Followed by tap water rinse- (rinse very well)
its much cheaper than any commercial de-skunker, too!

Thank you Jim!
It was about a week ago that he was sprayed and he still isn't allowed in bed with me I was getting ready to start a separate post about this, too, since the smell is driving us nuts...
Tonight we were outside working and Teddy was there with us, chasing grass hoppers (or so I thought). A couple minutes later he walks over and half of his face is swelled up I thought maybe he fell out of a tree or something, but he seemed fine and didn't even seem to care Then he darted off after his prey again - which is when I realized he was chasing bees! I was going to go to the store to get some pediatric benadryl for the swelling but after about 10 minutes I could start to see his eye again and about an hour later the swelling was gone. It didn't seem to phase him in the least
I just have to wonder what I'm in for with this guy. First a skunk - then bees
Thanks a lot for the recipe. We'll give it a try tomorrow. I'm too tired for it right now, I'm afraid

Jim, thanks for the recipe... I sure could have used this a couple of years ago when our dogs got sprayed. We used all of the other things you mentioned but none of them really worked because everytime the dogs got wet, they smelled again!
Chris, good luck bathing Teddy. Hopefully, this was his first and last skunk episode!
