Wilbur is home
Gee i thought I had posted about Wilbur, but I guess I'm just losing my mind.
He is on Low residue food and the vet says "they think" he has irritated bowel syndrom. He seems to be eating the food, though not a cup like he use to. He is also on prednizone but is being cut slowly back.
He is staying very close to us and giving Tegan lots of loving. Scrunching his face right into her's and drilling her as close as he can.
He loves being back at the patio door watching all the birds we are getting at the feeders and the chipmunk.
He talks to me a lot and sleeps beside me on the couch or the computer, like I said he is spending his time close to us.
Thanks for all of your concerns and prayers. We sure are glad to have him home,,,we missed him tons!

I'm sure glad you got him home, Debbie. I guess IBS is fairly common in cats. I have a friend who has a cat that does quite well on prednizone. (the cat was a kitten from my cat Sylvie's litter....runt of the litter that I fed sweetened condensed milk to as a tiny kitten. I feel somewhat guilty about her bowel problems.) Anyway, Tubu does fairly well on prednizone....is miserable when not on meds. I hope Wilbur does well for you. (((HUGS)))

I will try to do a little studying up on feline IBS. I am so relieved your family is reunited!!!!!

Before criticizing someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them you will be a mile away and have their shoes!
So nice to hear that Wilbur is home and doing better! I can't imagine how much you've worried about him.

Debbie, I have a dog (Gabby) with the same problem only my vet called it pancreatitis...but he also wondered if it was IBS. The first food he gave her was beef based and she wasnt getting better, so I suggested an non beef food and she cleared right up. But boy oh boy the $$ amount spent on her til we finally figured out what was going on. THe food is pricey but worth it. I keep pepto bismal and immodium just for the dogs every now and then she has a bout of diareah (sp).
I hope everything gets back to "normal" soon for you, your Mom and Wilbur.Im glad hes back home with you.

Thanks everyone, it is great having him home. He doesn't lay on the bed like he did before, so I guess he is feeling better. He just jumps up and says hi then jumps back down again.
Patsue, Wilbur was the runt of the litter too and when we found him he was so skinny. I don't think his mom was feeding him much at all. So maybe it happens more in runts? I have never heard of animals having it before.
Wingnut, I would not give pepto bismo to your dogs, if I remember correctly I read, on here I think, a few years ago, that a person's german shepherd died when given that.
I have heard keopectate is ok, but I would phone your vet and ask.
Wilbur didn't have any diarrhea or anything like that, just black tarry stool. That is why the vet had such a hard time figuring out what was wrong with him, as he didn't have a bunch of symptoms of any one thing.

Yes, if I remember my chemistry class, aspirin is salicylic acid (sp?) which is also in Pepto. One reason it's not good to give pepto to children either.
At least, thats my thoughts on it
Deb, so glad he's home and doing better
