Fable the former Parvo puppy (hopefully pics can be seen now

Post by outtahand »

I shared the story of Fable, my Rhodesian Ridgeback quite a while
back, how she had parvo, recovered, and was sick with various
other things, before making a full recovery.

She started her show career last fall, soon winning her first point.

Image
This spring, we continued showing, she always took first in her
class, but not going on to beat the more mature competition.
In Wichita, KS, we tried lure coursing, and Fable qualified
both days, earning her Junior Courser title.
To make this relate to my love of hostas, her registered
name is Vyrtuous Summer Music JC.
Her breeder asked to take her to the Ridgeback National Specialty
show, to enter her and show off the quality puppies she
produces. Here is a win picture from that trip. There were
no points awarded, but it was a pretty prestigious win.

Image
She went on the next weekend in San Diego to take Winners Bitch over
an entry of 54 other bitches! I was very excited, wish I could
have been there! It gave her a 5 point Major, which is the
largest number of points awarded for any single win.

This past weekend in Shawnee, OK, she once again took
Winners Bitch, and Best Opposite Sex, for a 4 point Major.
We havent yet gotten back her last 2 win pictures

I am so proud of this magnificent girl, its hard to believe
she was the pitiful 11 pound , 3 month old parvo puppy.

Yes it's hard to believe with that last pic that she is the SAME dog! What a beautiful girl! Give her {{luvs}} from us too!

Proud you should be! What a great accomplishment, giving her the health and then helping her to be all she can be! What a special girl! Congrats!

I agree with OC... nice to see such a great recovery. We lost a dog to Parvo way back when it was "new". I felt so bad for Mom... she did and spent everything to try and save our Nova. Wow.. now there's some long lost memories popping up!
Fable looks great! Congrats on her showing! She's doing great!!

Congrats! She is a beautiful dog. Sounds like you had a great vet taking care of her. My male boxer Doc also had parvo as a pup, that is how we got him. The vet called us because the owners would not come pick him up after he had tried to contact them for over 2 weeks. Doc is big and muscled and healthy as can be now.
So she was in Shawnee OK? That is just a stones throw from my house! Wish I could have seen her. My DH has always wanted a Ridgeback.

thank you everyone, for the nice comments and congrats!
Fable has a little sister, I got her 6 months ago, so she's
pretty grown up now, I'll hopefully get time to post a few
pics of her this weekend.
Ginger, June 29, 30, July 1 & 2, there is going to be a big
dog show in OKC, I think about 2500 dogs or more entered.
There should be about 30-40 ridgebacks. I am taking my
girls over. It will be at the Cox Convention Center,
next to the Ford Arena.
There are LOTS of health problems in puppy mill/ backyard bred
Ridgebacks, if your DH is looking for a puppy, this would be a good
place to meet a breeder that screens their dogs for all of
these problems!
The waiting list for a puppy from a responsible breeder can
be 1 - 3 yrs!

Wow, Jim, that is exciting. I got goose bumps reading your story. I'm so glad that your girl made it through all her health problems and now is such a fine example of her breed. Congratulations!

A dog show in OKC? Cool. We may just be there. Is it open to the public for a fee? DH wants a Ridgeback but with three boxers, he is going to have to wait awhile

Where do you stay with your dogs when you travel over night? Will the hotel let you keep them in your room?

This show is open free to the public, I believe-
this is their first time in the Cox Convention center,
so they might have started to charge a fee to cover
increased expenses, but it should be under $5 if they
charge anything at all.
There's lots of hotels that allow dogs when a dog show
is in town, usually pay $5-$10 per dog extra per night,
or sometimes just an extra deposit. If I can find a friend
to split the cost, I want to stay at the Sheraton, its next door
to the show site, otherwise I'll be driving in to the show every day!

They are doing a cardiac screening for dogs that weekend,
so i plan to get both my girls checked there.

Also, there are seminars on hound breeds, so, when I'm not
busy, I want to sit in on some of those seminars, they are
pretty informative, judges sit in on them to learn about breeds,
and it gives you an idea of how the judges are interpreting
the standards for different breeds, and what they are teaching
the judges to be correct for the different breeds.
It should be a pretty fun weekend, dog show people are
crazy, but fun!
