Wow!!!!! What a difference in one month! My dad has a "german" German shepherd named Congo who is just huge, and a big snuggly baby, as well as two mastiff/German shepherd crossed named Maui and Kauai, who are also total snuggle-bunnies. Wish my DH was a dog person... but for now we have our three spoiled cats and three exotic lizards LOL!

Thanks for the photos, would love to see more if you have any.

Wow, he is so beautiful! I love the 3 month pic with those ears that just won't quite stick up yet! Then later, he is so much more mature looking! He has a lot of hair. Is that normal for his breed (isn't he a GSD like Thunder?)or is it winter hair? Are you training him in S&R? Sorry, you probabley told us already, I just don't remember.

Ginger, the longer coat is a recessive gene, meaning both parents have to carry it in their makup. Both Trooper's parents are the standard, short coat but, obviously they are both carriers.
It's not that uncommon but because it's not allowed in the standards of the GSD, you wont often see it in American lines. In America a lot of the show people don't want it known that they produce them  . They are more common in working lines because looks are a far second to working ability.
Some have coats as long as a Collie. Often these longer coats don't have an undercoat. That makes it less weather resistant. Some go so far as to say the working line dogs are ugly.  Course others say that show line dogs are dumb! :D :D :D
There are some breeders that breed just for the long coats.
My preference is the short coat but it's not that important to me if the dog can work.
Trooper is being trained in AKC obedience, Schutzhund and any other venture to earn titles. (retirement is wonderful :D ). I will also do foundation training for scent detection work but just for my own satisfactiion.
