Plant Benches

I enjoy working with wood as well as many other projects. My wife wanted some small benches to set on the front porch this spring to set some small planters on. I was glad to have a project that would take a few days, as I am getting real tired of winter. These will set under some false windows on our porch, which will look much better than on the basement floor, but wanted to snap a couple of pictures and post them anyway. They are about 32 inches long, and 14 inches high.

Those are nice, I love the look of traditional 5-board benches. Did you do the painting and artwork also? They'll look great on the porch.

I primed the wood (medium grade pine) with a latex primer, then painted with an interior/exterior latex door and trim paint. The artwork on there is actually a stencil that we bought at Menard's for a couple of dollars. It really adds to the appearance, and go on in about 5 mins. each.
As far as making the benches, I started with 3 boards at 2:40 in the afternoon, and had tools put away, floor swept, and benches made at 4:15. Very easy design, simple cuts. Anyone could whip out a comparable piece in less than an hour each.

Here are the pictures of the benches in use. Sorry to take so long to get them posted. Plants look a little wilted, as we were out of town for a few days and they needed a good watering!

Gosh , they look fantastic! Simple to make , you say? What size boards did you use? And would you consider posting a tutorial on here about how to make them? I've got tons of scrap wood around here (treated lumber) that I am hoping to use for small projects like that.
