. . . and now my fingers are sore!

I have been working on a queen sized quilt for my Mother's Birthday present (B.D. was May 27  ) It was all pieced and 1/2 quilted by then, but the loopy medialions in the solid squares were giving me fits to free motion stitch on my very old machine. The needles kept breaking and the quilt is so huge and heavy the I couldn't move it around. So, I have given up and now I am hand quilting those parts. As the woman on TV said, "It is my quilt, I can do what ever I want with it" Including mixing machine and hand quilting  Actually kind of enjoying it and catching up on all my old TiVo'd Shows, but . . .now my fingers are getting sore.

What's wrong with combining hand and machine sewing! Sound wonderful. When do we get to see pics? :)

Hey Tami, the combination of hand and machine quilting is all the rage with the art quilt set so you're on the cutting edge (so to speak  ). Are your finger muscles sore or are you sticking yourself with the needle?

Janet, I have stuck myself, but that isn't why they are sore. I started hand stitching without a thimble. Got a thimble now, but it is just the holding of the needle that is making my firts finger sore now. :???:

Yes, I knew you all would want pictures, . Maybe this weekend. Have to work thru Thursday, so only have time to eat, sleep and work until then.

Tami, I use a leather thimble when I quilt. I find it more comfortable than a metal one and offers good protection for the finger.

Please post pictures when you're done. Sounds like a beautiful project.

Well, Thy, I finished it about 2 weeks ago and gave it to my Mom already  It was already two months late, and the digi needed batteries, so I didn't get a picture. But, I did tell Mom I need to come back and get a picture, so soon, hopefully, I will have one.

Now I have finished piecing and am already quilting a Fish themed baby quilt for the future great nephew due in November.
