Last year I Had a lot of fun painting Hostas on rocks using acrylic paint and polyurathene gloss and matt finish. By going to the color wheel on the Hosta Library home page you will get an idea of the colors you will need. I would like to discuss this unique craft with anyone interested. I left my rocks out all winter and just brought them in for a touch-up.

Hi, Zack.
I've been using smooth stones collected on walks on the beach for my hosta markers for many years. Sounds like the same technique you use--although I use the craft paints available everywhere.
Most years I bring them in after the fall clean-up but this year I was lazy and they're still out there. From the few I can see easily from my windows, they look to be intact and bright.
Can you post pictures of yours? I always enjoying seeing the work of artists.

I also started rock painting this last summer. I painted a lizard chasing a fly, two galiardias on a white background and am in the process of painting yellow roses on another one. I used the craft enamel paints. I then used a gloss spray as a protective finish. I used rocks that my family found for me. However, two of them were not smooth and I am wondering what to use to fill in the pits. It would look so much nicer if it were smooth. What type of finish did you use?
