Sewing for the bedroom

While my computer was down I have been redecorating my bedroom. Painted the walls RED. And have been sewing red print toule dust ruffle (20" drop, queen) and drapes full length, pleated, black out lined, double wide window sized.

Even though it is all straight line sewing, it has been a pain in the A$$ becouse of all the fabric! Try finding enough space to lay flat a piece of fabric that is 100" x 140"! And then the weight of all of it.

In the end it will have all been worth it. The dust ruffle looks so much nicer than any I have seen at stores. And If I ever get the drapes finished the room will look so wonderful and cozy.

WOW! That's an ambitious project you've taken on! I can only imagine what a pain it was to wrestle all that fabric...and pleating it to boot!! The room sounds stunning. I've always wished I had the nerve to paint a room red! Can't wait to see pictures! :)

Maybe a month of more away! I can only work on stuff on the weekend. If isn't the sewing , but all the fabric that wears me out!

It is only PAINT (Keep telling yourself that). If you don't like it, repaint it. Most paint neutral and use color in accessories. I have figured out that the paint is the cheepest part. Couches, drapes etc are the expensive part.

Love the new small color matched samplers sold at Lowes, makes choosing easier.

the only packets they sell here are the 'what's his name'? Oh geepers, it's too early yet. Anyway, name brand (one choice). Not a lot of color choice really.

Can't wait to see your room! :D

I can't wait to see pics also! Sounds fabulous. It also sounds like a HUGE job to tackle all that sewing. :)

Jane, Would that be Ralph Lauren? I used his Hunt Coat Red on my walls and the sample did come in a small pouch. While Home Depot doesn't carry many of the colors, you can order any of the colors from the/his? company.

Our Lowes will mix a two or three ounce bottle of any paint they carry. As long as the machine is working

In 1986, I re-wallpapered my daughter's old bedroom and bought enough white cotton voile with an antique rosebud design to make a new dust-ruffle and a couple of ruffled throw pillows. For whatever reason, I cut everything out, never sewed a stitch though, and the fabric ended-up in the attic where I found it last January.

Recently I decided I'd go on and finish the project even though I honestly didn't have a lot of enthusiasm for it. The voile dust-ruffle is one of the prettiest things I've ever made and now I'm slowly working on a white eyelet dust-ruffle to use underneath the voile.

I do hate gathering all that fabric! My sewing machine is over 40 years old and obviously doesn't gather but I do have good luck zigzagging across embroidery thread and then gathering the fabric.
