Question on Mosaic

I have a brainstorm..
Someone gave me a large round outdoor table, it is made of a polymer, has a rough surface, is in good shap but ugly!
The table top is seperate from the base.
I am thinking... (no I haven't told him yet) Of using my husbands mothers old dishes... breaking them up and using them to tile the top of this table???
Now that everyone is gasping...
My DH has no sentimental attachment to these dishes. They are not valuable, they are however a fake blue willow pattern. We still have them because my mother had a real set when I was little and when she passed a cousin received them and I have never seen them since.
These dishes have sat in our garage for 15 years...

I think these would make a beautiful table top and we could enjoy the sentimental past on a daily basis..

And blue willow in the garden.......how pretty....

Opinions??

If you are absolutely certain that they have no value, and hubs does not mind - why not? Sounds beautiful.

I sure agree! Better being used for SOMETHING than just sitting in a box in the garage!

Hmmmm.....you got me thinkin' about all the boxes in MY garage!.....p

Someone stole my husband and replaced him with this guy who DOES have a sentimental bone..
I talked to him today about the dishes... he loves the idea, but about midday we were shopping and he stopped in the middle of the store and announced to me he has been thinking about the dishes all day and just gets this knot in his stomach when he thinks of breaking them... and maybe it isn't the right thing to do.
Well I definitly respect his opinion and feelings... and had I thought for a moment he would feel this way I never would have even given my idea a second thought... geez, just when you think you have someone pegged to a tee!
But because I really love the idea, I think I will hold off untill next summer and keep my eye out at yard sales and auctions... see if I can find something similar.
It was a great idea....wasn't it?

Interesting thread!

Personally, I love mosaics, but to me, broken china is just broken china, it does not do it for me.

"Fake" blue willow? Would I be right in thinking the real thing is the one from Japan, as opposed to that from England or USA?

Why not continue with your project using some of the beautiful ceramic or glass tiles available? I do like the idea of using blue colors in the garden.
