Double Oriental

Post by emt-mike »

Hi friends, I bought this Oriental Lily about 4 yrs. ago not knowing what I had. Since I was new to gardening I bought this plant because of it's color and it had these little petals in the center. After three years, and tons of experiance, It finally bloomed to it's full potential. I always make up a vase full of my flowers for my Aunt's Birthday, but when I cut this flower last year, I noticed something different. It seemed that those unformed petals were full size now. It took a few years but in the end was well worth it.

So, do you know how to scale your lilies to make more bulblets? Its very easy and a great way to get more of the double.

Cool pictures!

I'm not much up on orientals, or asiatics. I have seen bulblets growing from the ground, but only around the asiatics, never the orientals. I'd be interested in this technigue if you want to share it. Glad you liked the pics. :D

Kellie, I tried scaling once. Didn't have much luck with it. Could you please share your experience. I have a couple bulbs coming this spring and would like to try scaling again before I plant them.

And Mike, if you would like to trade some scales from your double, I'm game.

Here is what I have coming:
Orienpet Lily Triumphator
Rosey Dawn ORIENTAL LILY
Garden Party ORIENTAL LILY

Here in my garden I have
OT Lily 'Shocking' (orienpet lily)
Stargazer Oriental Lily
Pep Talk Oriental Lily (from Hallson Gardens)
