Some of mine are in bloom

Post by newtohosta-no more »

Not all of my lilies have opened up yet, but several did, so I thought I'd share a few pics. :D
Some of these probably came from Hallson's, but I can't remember which ones right off hand. And please excuse the weeds.

I probably bought this one at small local nursery. It was simply labelled "Red"

These are the first lilies I got. I find them cheerful. They remind me of bubble gum.<br />They were transplanted this year since I had to redo that entire bed, so I'm happy to see them blooming.

Oh, I like those!

Weeds, smeeds! Danged things are the only thing thriving in this heat! UGH! Hate to waste the water on them, but some are impossible to pull unless you do! It's like they've grabbed hold of china! :(

Isn't that the truth, Jane! My neighbor asked me one day if a certain plant in her garden was a weed or not. I told her to give it a tug and if it came out easy it wasn't a weed.

Man is that the truth! I threw some annual seed out and I know they sprouted, but the weeds are taking over and danged, if I pull one I get all the flowers seedlings with them! :( Can't win for losing this year! :(

What beautiful Lilies, you are just feeding my habit with those photos! I guess I'll have to start collecting them again. Weeds, not in my yard!! I have plenty this year due to all my neighbors don't do anything to get rid of them. Matter of fact the neighbor behind me has put up a picket fence around their weed garden. No joke, a garden of thistle and all those weeds one would know not to grow.
No flowers, just weeds. We don't pull, we use round up as to not disturb the soil and activate more weeds. Just try a small bottle of it for smaller spots instead of a huge sprayer.

:D :D :D Chris, I believ de you got us a winner there...

Speaking of weeds, OC will not tell you how many wheel
barrow loads of weeds the kids have pulled out of his beds. Was out there with them Saturday, and they got the last of the weeds pulled, also, a long bed and a raised bed mulched, Where we had mulched before really looks good - no weeds. Was all ready to mulch the last two raised bed, but we ran in to those dang fire ants again, half way through the pile. Orkin has been out Thursday to spray, will be coming back next week. Sure glad that come with my yard service,

While in the front yard the kids pulled up a 8' tall weed that had a root that looked like a turnip. I have NEVER had those kinds of weeds before butg I got a whole front yard full of hem. Oh well, at least the Hosta Beds are clean. Miss Joy says I can not do anything else in the yard until I get the front two beds cleaned, and she is right - they look awful. But with all the work the kids are doing and all the mulch they afre spreading (when the fire ants let them) should help next year .

OC saying POOH on FIre Ants

Very pretty Joan!

The fourth one (yellow) is not Tom Pouce. It's an oriental lily with a yellow center and a pink edge. I'm waiting for mine to bloom. The rabbits got one but left one for me.

Gosh! Thanks for catching that Pat! I looked at the wrong tag when I was out taking pics that day, so I've gone back out and found the other tag and it says it's 'Painted Pixie'. I've edited the original post, so it should be correct now. And it looks as though my REAL Tom Pouce is getting ready to bloom in a few days. :D

But in the meantime, here's another one that has bloomed:
Pink Perfection. :D

Those are beautiful

Post by oldcoot »

As for the weeds, they are the worst this year that OC can remember. He has had two teen agers pulling weeds all summer, two days a week for 3 hours, then then mulching.
In the front we are going to have to mow down those beds, Weed are so tall and thick, you can't pull them up. After we mow, I HOPE we can get these beds mulched, The ones we mulched in the back yard look real good

OC not liking weeds
