HI
I have an infestation of lilly beetles. What is the best way to get rid of them?I have been hitting the plant and dropping them in a shallow dish with cooking oil but it seems to be a losing battle. Is the last resort digging up the bulbs? Can I keep them and then plant them in the fall or are they garbage. So many questions.

Hi Maureen!
I would treat with a systemic insecticide such as you might find for roses. Systemic insecticides are absorbed by the plants and when the larvae or adults feed it can kill them.
Merit insecticide is supposed to be the best, but you might want to alternate different ones a month apart.
And reports say that spraying the plants with neem oil early in the season, once a week as the lilies emerge, (although it is probably too late for that now) can repel adults and smother larvae.
Good luck!
