Husband took weedeater to lilies!
My blood pressure always goes up when I hear the weedeater. Besides baby tree trunks getting nicked, there are the flowers he assumes are weeds. He got my oriental lilies. I can't stop him unless I want to see his tantrum. BTW, I put little fences around my trees but he can lift those out of the ground. He always tries to trim when I'm not around.

Let him know how much money he just cut down, then say you need to buy more.

That bad would only happen once at my house....and it would not be pretty.

Re: Husband took weedeater to lilies!
@ John and Spider. I have a similar problem, but I can't do anything about it. I have a neighbor doing my lawn this year. He has a brain injury and can't work anymore. He has no short term memory left, so telling him anything is pointless. He chopped up some narcissus, irises, tulips and daylilies but I don't dare say anything. Even if he could remember, it would hurt his feelings. He needs to have things to do and needs to feel useful so I will simply suffer through. Esp since I can't use either of the suggestions made so far!!!!

Re: Husband took weedeater to lilies!
Oh I would KIll him Problem solved Suggestions, Tree wrap around new tree trunks, put up some type of structure, more fence or brightly colored twine or something, and tell him those areas are off bounds, no weed eating there. Keep everything mulched as much as you can so there will be no weeds to tempt him and tell him anything he sees green inside those barriers are NOT WEEDS, leave them alone.
MY DH did the same thing when we first moved to our place. He mowed and weed eated more plants than I can even begin to count , but by putting up barriers etc that he can see while his big fat head is looking down has helped alot... My I think I am still a bit bitter

I just moved a couple plants yesterday to keep them safe. They were getting a bit close to the edging.....

Put Old John (OC) in the same category. OC had a lot of Iris by the sidewalk and since there were more weeds, She had them all mowed down by her new yard man with no regrets......Said they would grow back by next year. Oh Pooh. and they were right before bloomimg. Her comnent, you would never see them for the weeds. THAT HURT...
And that is OC's story for today.................

Yeah...right, Bill. We've all heard about those Lily-destroying Oklahoma elephants. I HAVE heard of Indian elephants, but not Indiana Elephants.
Re: Husband took weedeater to lilies!
Tree wraps, fences geez you guys are making it hard, just get rid of the weed wacker. And newtohosta-no more haven't you heard of the song "corn as high as an elephants eye" well there must be elephants there for them to know that.

Re: Husband took weedeater to lilies!
Midnight Reiter, I feel your pain. Used to have the same problem here....still do once in awhile. Hubby just can't seem to help himself, and when the weedeater turns on the brain turns off.
I say let the tantrum fly, cuz I can tantrum just as well as he can. I did start telling him how much money he destroyed. Then I tell him I'm going plant shopping this week to replace those and will surely find a few others while I'm out. That has worked the best.
Good luck!
