Lily beetles

Post by otnorot »

I hope everyone is checking their lilies for this red beetle because if you don't they will eat off every leaf.

I believe I had these beetles last year. How do you control them? I hate to use insecticides.

I haven't seen them here but I've heard they are getting to be a problem to the east. I think the only real way to combat them is with insecticide.

I hand pick but you have to be fast because they drop off of the plant and land on their back and you cant see them because their under parts are black.

They made me compost every lilly 6 or 7 yers ago

So sad to hear you have them nove,

If hand pich.. keep a hand under the leaf and them use your finger nails or your feet

Pyrethum is effective .. I lave learned later

They are a live in late January here... and the look of the "nesthouse".. do not know a English word for it, ... under a leaf is just too ugly

Thy they are called larva if only one, as a group I don't know what they are called but they look like something a bird would drop.
Your English is better than mine and I was born here. LOL
