Bear's Breeches not blooming

Post by wholyhosta »

I have a 3-4 year Acanthus Mollis that has never bloomed. What are the ideal conditions for this plant? Maybe planted too deep?- peonys don't bloom if planted too deep. I'm in GA and this plant get directly overhead sun for several hours, altho a friend has hers in dappled shade and hers has never bloomed either. Is it just a fussy plant?

I don't know the answer unfortunately. I have Acanthus hungaricus and it has not bloomed for the last two years. Will see what it does this year. They are awesome when they do bloom though.

Robyn
thanks- I did a little more research and think it might be too warm/humid here in Georgia to grow well.
I love the foliage on your acanthus- have never seen it offered at greenhouses in our area.

My Bear's Breeches decided to bloom this year will try to get pic later. Seems to like to bloom in the dry summers.

Ours is in bloom after being planted last year. Full sun here where it's hot and dry.
