I just bought a Ghost Fern from Katie the Hosta Lady at the farmer's market. She says it gets pretty tall but isn't as invasive as my Ostrich Ferns.
Does anybody have experience with this one? What can you tell me about it?

OOOOO Doublemom's is pretty!!
I did a Google search on this fern and it says that it's sterile but can be easily propogated by division. That's great in my opinion! I have a devil of a time controlling my huge hillside of Ostrich Ferns to keep them where I want them. I think it's an awfully pretty color too. I hope it does well.

Hi Pat - I love Athyrium 'Ghost'. It's one of the Japanese painted ferns, so it doesn't spread like the ostrich ferns do (which is a lot!), it just forms a nice clump and behaves itself. I've found that out of the several Athyriums that I have, Ghost seems to be a pretty slow grower, but still very very very worth having. It's taller and more upright than my others too. I have the standard Jap. painted fern, Ursula's Red (which is OUTSTANDING!), Ghost, and Applecourt. The color on Ghost is definitely unique, very... well... ghosty!
Hope you like it as much as I do.
Happy Gardening,
Andi

Actually it is a cross between the lady fern and the painted fern. The lady fern gives it the vertical growth and the painted fern gives it the silvery fronds. It will never be as tall as the ostrich fern. I've seen them up to 30" tall in gardens although the ones we grow here are always about 20 to 24" tall - probably because we are always dividing and propagating them.
I really like them too
