Epimedium question for Kellie ???

Post by doublemom2 »

Hey Kellie! One of the unknown epimediums that I babysat for you is blooming, just wondering if you recognize the flower and which epi it might be? Is yours blooming?

Andi

p.s. All of your toadies are looking quite spectacular right now!!!

An epimedium that blooms in August? Wow. Is this normal?

I'm thinking not normal... but still pretty cool! It's one of the many that I babysat for Kellie for a year when she moved from Washington to Oregon. Part of the babysitting service included me keeping a small piece of each one (lucky me!!! Thanks Kellie ) :D

This one didn't do well after I divided off my small piece, and I thought it might not make it. Then it put out a bunch of new growth and sent up this bloom scape.

I'll have to keep my eye on it and see what it does next year. The only info I know is that it's from Heronswood originally.

Hmmmmmm.............. :???:

A picture of the leaf would help. I know that I purchased E. dolichostemon, E. acuminatum and a couple of others I lost the tags to. Heronswood keeps a list of purchases so I'll find out from them which ones I own and through process of elimination we'll figure it out.

All my epi's are doing well and love the coastal climate!

Thanks Kellie - I don't think it's either of the two you listed based on comparing photos from the Net to mine. I'll get a pix of the leaves today and post them for ya.

Andi, that is a very beautiful flower. I did not know that there were so many color choices. I thought the E. rubrum had the prettiest flower, now I change my mind! You sure got me going on epimedium's.

And of course... even more photos to reeeeeeeel you in just a bit further!!! Now you see why I kep talking about these plants so much when you were here, they're a good groundcover in the summertime, but in spring they are absolutely the stars of the garden, IMO :)

Ok, ok...You win! You did it again Andi. The power of your influence did it once again. Now instead of just native ground covers..... they will be mixed with Epi's, all over the place! My goodness your an expensive friend :)

Andi's gonna drain my life savings LOL !

Doesn't necessarily have to be expensive... there are such things as trades, you know :D

Very inexpensive, and a good excuse for a visit also. I do want to give you a piece of my dwarf maidenhair fern to go in that big stump above the regular maidenhair... that would look so neat!

Could it be Epimedium x youngianum, baby doll pink? Looks kind of like one I once had...

Oh, who the heck knows. It was the year of the Epimedium Lust.
:o Think I'll email Heronswood again and ask them to search through my purchases. Thank goodness the computer can do it for them as I'm sure the list is lengthy!

Oh goodness Kellie - you don't have to worry about contacting Heronswood unless you really want to know the variety. I'm just going to call it Epimedium kellianum 'Kellie's Surprise' and be done with it LOL!!!

Hugs!
