Wanda’s Forest Wonderland

Post by Wanda »

Hi! My name is Wanda and I hang out on the Hosta Forum.

I have been seriously gardening for over 25 years. Started with houseplants, then moved on to sun perennials and now that we live in a 26-acre old forest, I have moved on to hosta (since the forest is already full of rare wildflowers). Tend to go overboard with gardening, the trickier the better. Have raised orchids from protoseeds in test tubes to flowering (8 yrs.), built my first water gardens with dual waterfalls in 1982, played with hydroponics in the mid-1980’s and got to play with colchicine in college to mutate plants.

For years have been giving away 5-10 truckloads of plants per year, so started a local plant trade 6 yrs. ago to give away excess plants more quickly. And to try to find other plant people in the area. Just found a couple - most folks just want free plants.

When I am not gardening, I am a professional graphic designer, creating graphics for auto shows/museums/trade shows, tshirts for ESPN2 and lots of other fun stuff. I specialize in working in Photoshop manipulating photos, doing photo animations and creating illustrations. Even design logos and create show covers for hosta societies! That is a blast!

When not gardening or working, I fill my time with crafting. I intricately sculpt wood, make fine wool felt hats starting with raw fiber, paint shirts, create/bake/decorate wedding cakes, create wedding flowers, bead garments, sew, make baskets...pretty much everything except knit - can’t get the hang of that! (hehe)
