I have had this one for 3yrs,this is the first time I have seen this on it.
Once again, the name escapes me.

when's the hosta library database going to reappear?

I hate to say it, Jim, but that bleeding along the veins really does look like HVX. Too bad Dr. Lockhart isn't testing anymore for free so you could be sure

Patriot's Fire is often considered nothing more than a renamed Moonlight. Since Moonlight is a sport of Gold Standard the chance of it catching the virus is high as this particular family can catch it really easily.

You could watch it some more, isolate it, or just cut your losses and dig it and pitch it. I doubt that it is valuable enough to send out for testing but at the same time I really believe it is better to remove and be safe than leave it and be sorry later on down the line.

Do you have a handy County Extension Office? Check it out! Our office does hosta leaf sample testing for free, for now. Maybe after I get done flooding them w/samples, that will change.

I had to wait on the first batch I submitted for the testing labs to get the ELISA test kits, to get the good/ bad news (some were sick, some not). Waiting on the results of a much larger bunch of samples submitted today.

Better safe than sorry and good to know for sure- but it does look like Chris is right about the HVX.

That is great news that your extension office is testing for free. I just got a reply from Mich. State Univ. and the cost is $25 a sample.

Do either of you have any ideas how these plants became infected? Did you have them for a while or were they recent purchases, or did you have other virused plants in the area?

Just trying to learn as much as we can about it.

I got that Patriots Fire from Hostalavista-2 yrs ago,
now that I checked my records-
it was supposed to be "a small division", according to her...
It had 2- 3 eyes, and she had been growing it in her beds there-
cant remember the woman's name- Sandy,maybe?
I got lots of mislabeled stuff from her-
Thats how I found this place, looking for the correct names
for those plants!
