Fortunei Aureomarginata - sold as Carnival but it's not...

Post by Chris_W »

A customer stopped by today with 3 leaves that she bought 2 summers ago as Carnival, but it was definitely not Carnival and looked like Fortunei Aureomarginata. The plants had a very, very high concentration of HVX based on clear, visible symptoms. I was too busy to get my camera out to take a picture, and now I'm mad that I didn't ask her if I could keep the leaves to get a picture...

The dark green portions were mottled in darker green with dark green "ink bleed" into the gold margins. On one side of the leaf the gold margin was completely mottled dark green. The infected areas were also oddly corrugated.

So if you have purchased a plant as Carnival that instead is dark green with a thin yellow margin, it might be a Fortunei Auroemarginata and it might be infected.
