Elvis has left the garden...

Post by addieotto »

Ok well he hasn't left yet but he's on his way out the door. I am 99% certain this is HVX despite the fact that I have not seen Elvis Lives on any infected lists. This plant came from the same nursery that I received the other HVX plants from so ... well, it's not rocket science.

On my personal website I include where each hosta was purchased and I leave up pages for those that have come up infected with photos of the infection. From now on I am going to leave the source information up as well. It is quite possible and likely that it was infected at the nursery.

This is ashame. I really liked Elvis.

It is a shame if that nursery is selling infected plants and not being careful not to spread it in their own stock. I have never seen HVX in Elvis Lives and I'm wondering if that is not HVX? We'll have to wait and see what Chris and some of the others have to say. Sorry about your plants. :(

It would be lovely if it wasn't. I don't have my hopes up though.

Have you tried to look at the leaf from the backside aginst the sun ???

Could look like HVX to me, but that would be my test  ..
Think the "infected lists" are only for the ones spread out in thousands and not covering a nursery cutting a leave or stalk here and there.. starting with an HVX infected hosta

Yes, the lists are for large quantities that are on the market which is why I think that if it is HVX, it came from cross contamination from handling at the nursery.

I haven't looked at it from the backside. What are you looking for when you do that?

Look for a zig zag pattern along the veins, rather easy to see against the light.

I got an EL on Ebay about 4 years ago that had it.

Sorry.
