Is it virus x?

Post by susna »

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and to growing hosta's. I purchased a bunch of plants from Bridgewood gardens last year. They seemed to lag all year, I figured it was because of Minnesota's hot, hot summer, but now they've come up this year and they're still having problems, can anyone tell me what this might be??? I've attached pix of Antioch, but am having similar symptoms on my white xmas, allegan fog, night before xmas and ani machi.
Thanx

Cold damage can look like this, but that last pic....the lower leaf hiding underneath looks kinda suspicious. Can you post pics of your other hostas?

Looks like cold damage to me - I don't see any signs of HVX.

Here they are, first two pix are antioch, they seem to be the worst, then night before xmas, allegan fog, ani machi, and white xmas. Pix/Plants 3-6 seem to only have puckering and some funky edges at this time and I believe that may be normal for white xmas and ani machi, could be wrong though. Picture 2 is the close up of that leaf from first set.

I don't see any HVX either. Looks like the eyes got damaged before they unfurled (cold, stepped on, etc.).

Watch the next set of leaves for problems, but these look fine.

Thanks so much Chris, you've taken a load off my mind. There are some new leaves coming up and will be open soon, so I'll investigate more later. We did have some warm weather and then got hit with a snowstorm this spring so cold damage is very likely, but because I'm new at this I wasn't sure what that would look like either. Thank you to everyone that responded, you've been a big help. I will post more pix when my baby's are grown up.
