That looks like a classic example of Impatiens Necrotic Spot Virus. I sure hope they threw it away after you pointed it out!

I had no idea what it was... I'll let them know. But how did and 'impatiens' virus get into a hosta?

Is that anything like the "Spritzer Virus" that is shown in The Hosta Handbook? Not that it makes much difference, since it says to control it you must destroy the infected plant and remove the surrounding soil.
