Gosan Gold Mist

Hello
Has anyone ever tested this plant for HVX or other viruses? I have had it for years and while when i got it seemed like a cool plant but with all the HVX problems as of late the pattern on the leaves just freaks me out. I am hoping that i am worrying about nothing but would love some reassurance.

A little slow in the picture department but here it is. The plant is supposed to look the way it does and it was on the market well before the HVX scare, I also believe it was introduce by the author of The Genus Hosta (great book by the way) so it has good provenance.

I have had Gosan Gold Mist for a year. And I am very suspicious of it too.
BUT I did take it, along with several others, to the U of MN, where I was told that that was the way it was supposed to look (just as when I bought it). And I did not have it tested for HVX, so i don't KNOW that it is healthy.
Your pic seems to be more blotchy than misted...
I have had no 'luck' at getting my pics on this site. But will try again later for a comparison for you.
This virus thing is a real pain. Gardening is supposed to be a stress reliever. I think that I have developed paranoia!!

It's frustrating for sure. I have made a great effort to avoid having HVX in my garden and i will be really upset if it turns out i have had it for years. To be on the safe side i am going to toast the plants

and be done with it.

t doesn't look like it has HVX to me. It looks just like my GGM.

They have already tested it so I'm confused. Do you just think that your particular plant is virused or..?

well information that someone has had the plant tested would go a long way to stopping me from torching the poor beast but so far i have yet to hear from anybody who has tested it (and had it come back negative). I will put the flamethrower away for a couple days and see if anyone has confirmed the plant as HVX free. One dead hosta in a garden of thousands is a small price to pay for peace of mind IMHO.

Could this blotchiness be from some sort of nutrient deficiency? I would imagine that HVX in a plant like that would have the more blueish bleeding look instead of what I see there. Why not just pot it up and isolate it instead of executing it? I can't bear to think of that baby getting torched!

We need Chris to check in here and give his opinion.

Combellack, your hosta looks much more suspicious than Sownsew's. Notice how the spot seem round and bumpy (like the colonization of a virus or bacteria) compared to the long streaks?

Have it tested if the cost of the plant is more than the test.
