Obsidian problem

Hi guys,

I got Obsidian last week by mail and it's gotten limper and limper each day. Two days ago I moved it into a different spot to see if it just didn't care for it's home and it looked worse this morning. I finally pulled it and potted it up. It looks a bit better this afternoon.
Does anyone know if this is a fussy one? I'm going to try nursing it back to full health before returning it to the ground.

Hi Molly,

Obsidian itself isn't a tough one. It sounds like the plant you got is going through some transplant shock. Keep it moist but not wet for a while and see if it recovers. You could also trim off some of the foliage and it should send out fresh leaves.

However, if it continues to decline let me know. I'm assuming it is the plant you got from us, and if so, I can give you a refund for the trouble. It has been really dry and unusually hot here, especially for this time of year, so it may have been stressed out.

Sorry about the trouble.

It's the same one Chris but I don't regard it as your fault. It really looks much happier this afternoon after I moved it into a pot and watered thoroughly. I think it got stressed getting here cause temperatures were on the high side last week before they suddenly dropped. I'll keep an eye on it.

Could it be a sun or shade issue? I find those colors are best in full sun, but perhaps that was a bit intense after transplanting and needs a bit of shading at first?

Could be John but this time of year there is no shade here to be had. Trees haven't leafed out . Of course I'm in the north so the sun isn't as intense as the more southern parts of the country but still after a long trip in hot weather it may be a factor.
I've moved it into the shaded section of my greenhouse where heucheras and ferns are growing happily so we'll see what it does from there. I know it was much more upright (it had been flopping on the ground yesterday morning looking at death's door) last night.

I ran out to the greenhouse this morning (raining here) and it was trying to stand up the way a proper heuchera should so I now have high hopes for it! I'll give it a month or so to recouperate. The shade should be in full by then so it won't get as stressed being planted then. Potted heucheras did fine when I planted them in the ground (same area) so I'm inclined to think it was a combination of bare root status, travel shock and lack of shade that almost did the poor thing in.

Which one are you getting new-no more ?
