Okay, since my family doesnt understand my addiction to heucheras, I know you guys will appreciate it  . Managed to hide 2 more it the group of plants waiting to be planted (if I could just get the weather to co-operate). Bought Raspberry Ice the other day. The description on the tag stating both light and dark pink flowers intrigued me and today I found a really healthy specimen of Midnight burgundy so I grabbed it. I was waiting to pick that one up on sale but it was the best I had seen so far so I grabbed it (not that I needed much encouragement). Now I think I need to get a key lime pie (have lime rickey and love it) to add a shot of brightness into the area where I am planning.....hee hee, it never stops, can always find room for one or 2 or 12 more!

I am with you :D I just love these plants, they add a spot of color and there are just so many beauties out there to pick from  Between these and hostas I think I might have some sort of leaf addiction   Not looking for a cure though...yet

Excellent purchases!

It is so much fun to find a new one and you are very fortunate to have a nursery that carries a good selection. The ones near me have Palace Purple and Snow Angel and not much more

Enjoy those new babies!

Pretty much a similar situation here Alexa. I can find the ones you mentioned easily. Briefly I found a few more at a local nursery and now just the old Palace Purple/Snow Angel routine. I could not locate ones like Georgia Peach, Geisha Fan or Sparkling Burgundy. So if I want those and others I have to mail order and I think it's too late in the year to mail order heucheras now. Oh well there's always next year!

Midnight Burgundy! I've got to see that one!
btw Velvet Night is turning out to be one of the prettiest heucheras in my garden! I thought it would set the others off and it's turned out that the others are setting VN off!

Velvet Night was the first heuch I bought back in '99 and while being a sentimental favorite, it still is the prettiest one I own. :D

Caliloo, we are fortunate to have several really good nurseries close to my house. But half of my new heucheras have come from places like home depot, loblaws (grocery store with an awesome garden center that usually has several new heucheras each year) etc. It seems that some of these places are either getting knowledgeable staff who can keep the plants alive, or someone who does the ordering has decided the smart thing to do is to expand beyond the standard palace purple etc. It makes the hunt for new ones that much more fun :D .

MollyD, it was mentioned to me that I should add a third tier under the tree so that is what started the purchasing of the new heucheras (not that I wouldnèt have bought them anyways  , but this way I was not getting grief for bringing home more heucheras). The bed is dug and ready to go, but the weather is not co-operating. It is either way too hot or pooring rain. I have been known to garden in the rain, but this was a bit too much rain. Hopefully tomorrow will be better weather. I am off work for the week (had my puppy spayed so took vacation time to take care of her) and want to get a bunch of gardening done.

Brenda

P.S. Managed to find Brownies this weekend, snuck it home and added it to the collection without anyone noticing!

Brenda good luck with your puppy. I had my cat done many years ago and for a few days it was clear she was hurting.Couldn't even jump up on the furniture or climb stairs.

Thanks MollyD,

The hardest part is keeping her from doing things. She apparently isnt hurting because she tries jumping whenever I am not looking. If I leave her on the floor she tries jumping up, if I leave her on the furniture she tries jumping off (before I have a chance to take her on or off). I keep reminding myself it is all worth it in the long run. I love her to pieces but she is driving me crazy this morning. Doesnt help that it has been raining for the past 2 days so she cant even go outside for long periods of time. Basically to go to the bathroom and right back in before she gets a chance to roll. We are both going a little stir crazy (cant visit my neice and nephew either because she gets too hyper with their dog or them so visiting is out too). I think her teeth are bothering her too where they extracted 2 baby teeth because she is chewing even more than usual and on everything BUT her chew toys.

Hey Brenda,

What heucheras is Loblaws stocking this year. I haven't been to the garden centre yet. I know, I know... I'm way behind in my plant shopping. I haven't even bought a hosta yet...

I'm scheduling my plant shopping blitz for next weekend!

I guess I'm lucky in that I'm retired so my money is my own to spend as I see fit. Paul will suggest something once in a while and I'll smile and say you think so dear but I'll still do what I want to. I spent years working to earn that money and by gum I'm going o enjoy it!

Maureen,

Loblaws has Obsidian, Lime Rickey, Sparkling Burgundy, a few have marmelade and the new one for this year is Midnight Rose (keep calling midnight burgundy for some reason). I was going to wait and pick it up on sale when they close but they are pretty small specimens so when I found a fairly good one, I paid the 12.99. Loblaws is also using a different supplier this year, not sure who it is as the pots have no company name on them (not Epic though) and the selection is kind of disappointing).

Canadian Tire has Beauty of Color for $5.99, Brownies for 12.99 (saw it at a nursery for 24.99), plus another one that I noticed on the way and cant remember the name of it. Oh and they have snow angel and white cloud (I think that was the name) also.

Home depot had snow angel, caramel, venus, lime rickey(I think), can can and another couple that I cant remember.

Richmond Nursery (if you ever get out there) had key lime pie mocha mint, licorice, peach melba, Creme de Menthe, Venus and raspberry ice.

Have not had time to check out what is available in the east end of town. Most of where I have gone so far is in the west end. I have been taking the puppy to work with me and working overtime so by the time I leave in the morning, I am too tired to roam too far.

I am waiting for payday next week before I do my next buying blitz  I still have some spots I am not happy with and can always squeeze in some more :D .

MollyD, it is not a husband I have to worry about (dont have one of those!), it is a mother who never fails, whenever I get home from work with plants, she is sitting outside so I cant smuggle them in. She starts to threaten when too many accumulate that she is going to have a plant sale if I dont get them planted soon at which point I threaten her with the home (long standing joke between my mom and I, she knows I would never do it).

Maureen,

If you are up for the drive (not sure what area of Ottawa you are in) there is also Whitehouse perennials just outside of Almonte. They are my favorite for getting heuchera. I have not actually been to the nursery, I usually get them at the kanata garden show, but they are awesome. My aunt collects heucheras and hostas and she swears by them. The list they have of heucheras are:

‘Amber Waves’
‘Amethyst Mist’
‘Black Beauty’
'Bressingham Hybrids’
‘Cappuccino’
‘Cherries Jubilee’
‘City Lights’
Crimson Curls’
‘Frosted Violet’
‘Gypsy Dancer’
‘Lady in Red’
‘Lime Rickey’
Mint Frost’
‘Palace Purple'
‘Santa Rosa’
‘Saturn’
‘Silver Scrolls’
‘Venus’

HEUCHERELLA [Foamy Bells]

‘Birthday Cake’
‘Burnished Bronze’
‘Chocolate Lace’
‘Heart of Darkness’

I got Rave on, Paris, Fireworks and cinnabar silver from them this year and gingerale came from them last year. They dont list everything on the website.

They are also part of the American Hemerocallis Society (over a 1000 daylily varieties if you like them, I do but do not have the room to do them justice) as well as specializing in hostas too.

Thanks, Brenda. I haven't paid my annual visit to Whitehouse Perennials yet.

But I did do a bit of shopping in town. I picked up Peach Melba and Midnight Rose. I was thinking about Rave On and Firefly...But the one I really want is Peachy Keen.
