Hello,
Where can I find a daphne bush to look at? I understand this plant may also grow happily in my mostly shady garden. However, I cannot find any plants for sale. What gives?

In zone 5b, it may be a hardiness problem. While some daphnes should be hardy there (have to run for my Dirr to find out), my guess is that some of the most garden-worthy ones (i.e. not collector's plants) may be too touchy for your local nurseries to handle. Add to that that daphnes are notoriously fussy: sure, it may grow just beautifully for you, but that doesn't guarantee that one year it will look lovely and the next year it will be dead.
I put in a 'Carol Mackie' this year (listed as hardy to zone 5), and am crossing my fingers. At least it was 40% off the original price, and looks good so far.

Thanks, I guess. I had the same, frustrating experience with a Scotch broom plant I have been trying to grow.
It's just not the right environment here in Zone 5B, muck land, USA.
With regards to the Daphne bush, I'll wait until global warming has changed my environment enough to accomodate the bush.

Followed you home, did it?
Ooh how pretty. We got 4 inches of new snow instead. It (the snow) couldn't even wait a few hours so I could watch the eclipse! Big sigh.

We went looking for a Dogwood to finally replace the one (rubra)that the big cedar mashed a few years back. We spotted a Cherokee Sunset but we weren't to sure when we saw those but the Daphne was on the list. DH had killed the first one many moons ago so it was time to replace it. We have a rule her you break/kill you replace.
