Pic of the Day--Key Lime Pie
Hi--As regular readers of these daily musings are aware, I am easily befuddled when it comes to hostas. Today's plant, Key Lime Pie, is another befuddler (let's see if that one gets past the spell checker) for me because of apparently conflicting size information. Key Lime Pie is another Hans Hansen introduction and he describes the plant as a sport of Squash Casserole that quickly grows to 60 inches wide. However, the plants shown in the Hosta Library do not appear to be nearly that large. And if the plant growing in our Friendship Garden is true to form, I can only expect a plant about half the size Hansen describes. In 2006 the plant measured 10x9 and this year it was 16x10. The plant does have attractive foliage and if it ever does reach 60 inches, it will be a real attention grabber.

It would be interesting to see one that is 50-60" across to get an idea of a mature one for certain. I really like the ribbon edge on this one with that coloring and the pretty purple flowers would only add to it.
Anyone one have a picture of a larger one?

Re: Pic of the Day--Key Lime Pie
Here is a picture of a pretty sizeable clump in our growing area. I think this one is about 5 years old and is easily 4 feet across so this really can turn into a beauty
Re: Pic of the Day--Key Lime Pie
My Key Lime Pie is huge. In the pic it's companions are Heart's Content and Liberty. It's giving them a run for the money in size. It gets sun until around noon, and doesn't seem to mind at all. The only problem I have with it is that I didn't give it nearly enough room and I keep hitting the outer edges with the lawnmower blade because there's a narrow strip of grass there. I may have to take out that strip of grass. What a tragedy.

I got Key Lime Pie this season from Chris. It's in flower now with interesting "speckles" on the petals.

Thanks for the posting. It reminded me to get out and see the flowers this season. You get busy working and forget some of the fun things.

Key Lime Pie today with Made You Look on the left and Jubilee on the right. That's some clausa in the bottom right corner and other places. That's Silk Kimono towards the top/left corner with Neptune behind it.

I found Key Lime Pie in flower today and the petals do have speckles on them.
Here are two photos of the same flower just different angle.
This is a different flower.
