Turkey Vultures

Nope, I'm wrong, I just looked up my bird book, the head is much different for blacks than turkeys.

One of Mother Nature's evolutionary wonders!
The featherless head is to avoid collecting bacteria from some of the nasty "things" they eat, and the methods they use.
The sunning is another way to kill bacteria. The sun is a wonderful disinfectant.
They also Pee down their own legs. Strong antibacterial agents in it.
You also don't want to surprise a vulture on it's meal. If it's to full to fly it's defense is to unload it's meal with projectile vomiting. Accurate to 10-15 ft. Smells a bunch worse coming back out then it did going in......trust me!
When the vultures start showing up in this are its a sure sigh that the eagles have left. The vultures harass them for their food.
Yep! The birds in John's pic ARE wild turkeys, not Turkey vultures. JMHO of course!

I really hope one day to get a clear shot of them in flight. But I may need a camera with a bigger lens for that!

I had one fly by this afternoon so close I could see his eyeballs. He winked (lol) . It was windy today and he was really moving. I also saw an alligator. It was stalking a duck.

See, it's those alligators that are a drawback for to live in Florida, Spider!! My stepmom lives in Cape Coral & my big brother lives in S.E. Fort Myers.
I am getting closer here! Since they fly over around here everyday, I can get lot's of practice and wait for them to come down a little lower for me!
