Who's going to regionals?

Post by putnamgardens »

Who'll we meet in Schaumburg? We're taking two cars so we can carry all of our loot home. Lucky Andy....he's bunking with 3 women. It's not the first time they've seen'm in his P.J....won't be the last. It'll be good to see everyone. Last time I was in Schaumburg, it was January. I bet we hit the R.A.M. micro brew for supper once or twice. The convention hotel is not the Hyatt but I'm sure it'll be swell. I've got to charge up the batteries. I've got a new video recorder this season. I heard that they've had lotsa rain and the hosta are lovely. Don't forget to pack your red hat. You never know...this could be the summer you get "hosta hottied". Later, Love, Lisa

I'm hoping to make it on either Friday or Saturday, can't say for sure since Barney's dad is still in the hospital in and out of intensive care since the day after Thanksgiving, bad car accident. It's been hard to plan anything.

If fact we were just talking about hoping we could go. I so want to meet everyone in person!

Are we really suppose to wear a red hat?

I'll be there sometime Thursday - hopefully by early afternoon so I beat traffic.

Carol - those look like columbine blooms to me.

You won't be seeing me in any red hat.

Be careful what you wish for. I'm looking forward to squeezing the boys. Josh, Dave, Reldon and Ken. So sorry to read that dad's ill. If I knew the hotel took pooches, I'd bring my therapy dogs. The red hat gig is a regional spoof. We tie a purple feather boa around a guys neck and he gets his photo taken with a bunch a ladies with red hats. We started it about 5 years ago in Dubuque and it caught on. See ya Thurs. Later, Love, Lisa

Connie & I are planning on leaving Thursday AM for Chicago.
Ron is staying home.

I think our neighbors, David & Betsy are planning on making it too.
If Bruce & Trudy go, Ron will have the whole neighborhood to himself.

I'm trying to convince myself to take a plant or 2 to enter into the sport competition.
See you all soon!!!

Looks like Peggy & I didn't know how to do the red hat/purple boa thing right since I'm wearing the hat. :???: Or maybe it's Lisa who's confused.

You're not taking Ron along, Marlys?? :o The tour & auction last weekend must have ODed him on hostas for the year.

Reldon,

You know Ron was really a trooper at the national convention but then, he did get to go to that Stevie Nicks concert. And he only slept thru 1/2 of the ROHS plant auction & he liked the food. He bought a new dwarf conifer on the auction.

Which reminds me I got you one pot of Stiletto from the auction too. And I haven't told you the best parts.

#1 Kathy Hoard (Pepper 1) bought the high selling plant of the day!!! A real streaked beauty! We all cheered her on. It was fun!

And I won a divison of Greg Johnson's new introduction, the first division ever released from his garden of hosta
'Diddlysquat'. Greg said he must have been drunk or something when he named it. It's a beauty. It has all my favorite traits, cupped up leaves, heavy substance, corrugated, dark color. There is a picture on the Hosta Library.

And I won another introduction from Greg, hosta 'Jaz'. It is yellow and feels like plastic. I have never felt such a leaf. There is a picture of it on the HL too.

I have even created them space in the garden along with the 'Hart's Tongue' you gave me & that most beautiful huechera in the world, 'Orange Man' you gave me. OM is the most awesome huechera I've ever seen. - Thank you again. Friends like you are the best!!!

I know he is. :P Apparently the Stevie Nicks Chicagoland concert was already over.

 I thought you'd probly passed on the Stiletto since you never said anything about it later. I'll gladly take one more pot of it. :P Thanks!!

That's  that Kathy got the high bid!! So what was this streaked beauty she bid so high on anyway??

I'll have to check out Diddlysquat. Great name!! I think I've seen Jaz before, but I guess I'd better look it up again. Or come see them in your garden.

But Marlys, I think you need to recheck the label on that heuchera you're calling Orange Man. If I recall correctly, it was named Prince of Orange.

I hope everyone has a great time at the Regionals!! I wish we could be there.

Reldon, the plant was Greg Johnson's 'Chado' (meaning 'High Tea Ceremony' in Japanese, I understand). I was just the designated bidder for the other pepper half. Well ok, maybe the last arm and leg I bid beyond Gary's limit was strongly enabled by the Pella group, David D especially!

Have fun this weekend!!!

It will be good to see everyone again. Linda C and I are coming Friday morning.

Chado sounds pretty 8-) Kathy!! I had a feeling that if it was streaked there was another pepper strongly involved. So how much did you go over what Gary wanted to spend anyway?? You gotta watch that David D [and all the rest of the Pella gang]. I missed all of the bidding action & getting to sit next to Robin & make her bid more. Next year...

Linda - I'm so glad you're going to be able to get to this convention. :P You definitely need a break/diversion!!

Lee - I have a feeling that Ken has a very good reason for putting you and Josh where he did.

See everybody Thursday & Friday!! :D Can't I just fast forward thru Tues & Wed?? :hmm:

At the risk of sounding like a hosta snob..."I have Chado, already" Lance and Greg brought a couple pots to Milwaukee and me and Hosta Rod bought'm up. I mighta got a better price than you did. Yes the 2010 convention will be in MN. All are invited and welcome. We're huge Fleetwood Mac fans so an opportunity to see Stevie Nicks would have the Putnam's sleeping through the fun too. Glad to read the Linda's will be in attendance. I'm heading out the am to get an oil change so the SUV can bring home the loot. See you very soon. Later, Love, Lisa
