Is Kasugi (Kasuji) the same as Inaho?

Post by redcrx »

I was getting some pictures of early risers today and found these plants were up.
So they start out the same time. I checked my flower pictures and they look the same. And the flowering time is the same.

'Kisuji' is the spelling found in the Hosta Library. I have been told that it is the same as 'Inaho'. My plant, however, does not quite look like yours. It is uniformly streaked all over, while yours looks like it might be going to an edge.

This what Hugo has in his database on 'Inaho':
=tardiva aureo-stricta
Unusual color, different from H. 'Kisugi', larger with purple anthers.
Streaked breeder:*
Faint green/gold streaks.
Narrow, yellow leaves are delightfully streaked with green. Purple flowers.
And this on 'Kisuji':
='Kisugi'.
='Inaho'?
=sieboldii 'Mediopicta'?
=tardiva 'Aureo-striata'.
='Frühlingsgold'.
Streaked breeder:*
Narrow light green leaves w/some streaking, fading as season progresses; pur. fls.
Also known as 'Inaho'. Lanceolate leaves, lightly rippled, medium green with bright yellow streaking, fading in summer. A very attractive plant that seems to hold its streaking well. Purple flowers.
Narrow, yellow leaves are delightfully streaked with green. Sometimes viridescent.
So, as you can see, there is great confusion, with some saying they are differentiated by the colours of the anthers and others claiming them to be the same. Never mind the various spellings....
