Today my cousin, my wife and I visited O'Briens Nursery in Granby, CT. In a word, WOW. My head is still spinning. They have over 1600 hosta varieties planted out or in pots. We were there over 2 hours but barely scratched the surface. The mature plantings are magnificent, and the sales area has a huge number of plants. They are only open selected weekends and don't advertise.
Here's a link to a short video of the sales area.
I've uploaded pictures to a web album if anyone is interested.
Some random photos, the web album has a lot of individual hostas.
These came home with us:

Wow, that really is impressive! When I see this big of a setup all I can think is that they have to be doing it more for the love than the money, because that kind of operation and inventory sure doesn't come cheap

Knowing John, I would say it is just business.

We talked with the owner, and that was the impression we had.Chris_W wrote:Wow, that really is impressive! When I see this big of a setup all I can think is that they have to be doing it more for the love than the money, because that kind of operation and inventory sure doesn't come cheap

I agree with Chris.... thankfully some people would starve so we might have quality hosta... praise them lol...
Beautiful nursery and I love the old new england style barn... here in Kentucky we have lots of barns... but they're country and not nearly as neatly built....

Next year we have a Graduation in Massachusetts. I am going to try to to get hubby to make a detour for a visit to this nursery. He's also been talking about taking me on a trip to the Great Lakes. You know I will be begging to stop at Hallsons. If we take the camper you know there will be room to hide away a few hosta.
