Re: Hosta of the Day - Lacy Belle
This to mw is a lovely hosta, and a decent grower. very eye catching in early spring. Mine was similar in habit (and looks) to Wolverine but alas it died after a few years. Wolvering got similar but I managed to take some tint divisiond off her and save it. If I remember right Lacy Belle was a slug magnet for me, but was always one of the first up and made a very impressive spring/early summer show. one thing I did find with it though was not to ut it close to similar marked leabes as it lost its more outstanding appearance then.

Paul in Mn..... looking at your picture of LB at first glance I would definately thought Wolverine, yet when I had my LB next to my W there was a striking differene LB was the more elegant and more striking of the two. Strange how having 2 very similar looking hostas with similar habits next to each other makes them look totaly different.

Just got another shot of the flowers. Hurricane Sandy just came ashore about 40 miles east of me. It's a weird storm - been raining all day with a lot of wind but the rain just stopped and I went out to look around - no damage. The wind is supposed to pick up tonight but the storm is moving about 30 miles an hour in-land. It really accelerated from what it was doing all week.

Lacy Belle a couple of days ago in a group with Deliverance on the left (getting buried) and Lakeside Miss Muffett on the right. Some other along the edge are Moon Shadow, Lakeside Knickknack, Red October, Fujibotan.

Lacy Belle is almost out of control. It's burying an azalea behind it.

This plant has gotten huge. This is the same plant shown at the beginning of this topic that went in my front lawn garden in 2012.
I didn't realize how big it was until I noticed it from the opposite side.

Lacy Belle coming into flower:
Then I noticed a double flower - I think everything is nearly double - I counted 10 petals, there are two fused style, and I counted about 10 anthers.
And a small bee stopped by to see what i was doing.

Re: Hosta of the Day - Lacy Belle
I was out this morning playing with my Front Lawn Garden Weedlings - one of them, I think, is a seedling off Lacy Belle. Lacy Belle is starting to open its flowers so I got a few photos. Looking at the close-up of the flower I noticed something "unusual" - there is some purple color at the end of the stigma. I never noticed before so I went back in this topic to see if flowers from past seasons had the same trait, and yes they do, even ones that are flowering out-of-season. The only one that didn't was a double flower photo I posted last season. So this is the fourth plant I have encountered with this "trait" - the others are Chariot's of Fire, Otter Point, and an unnamed plant out of Art Wrede's collection.
The really tall scape is coming from the seedling that I think belongs to Lacy Belle.

Lacy Belle this morning - the color is showing up better - my better phone camera seems to do that.
