Hosta of the Day - Mr Blue

Post by redcrx »

Mr Blue is a hybrid of Riptide. It was developed by Arthur Wrede. It starts out green and the blue develops over the season.

There is a short thread on this plant that discusses the size of the plant:

A point of interest:

The name "Mr Blue" was registered without the "." (period) after the "Mr".

I was curious and just did some research. The "." (period) is not permitted in naming things. So "Mrs. whatever" would not be permitted to be registered but "Mrs whatever" is fine. Or "Dr. whatever" couldn't be registered but "Dr whatever" could be.

The odd weather this spring wrecked what had been my biggest Mr Blue:

My other two look great.
Here's the one in my "New Garden":

And my third on the north side of my house:

Got some nicer photos of one of these. I was walking by it and noticed how up-right it was looking.
That's Niko on the left with Whirligig above it. On the right is Whirling Dervish with a tiny Eternal Flame behind it and further to the right and above is a Dust Devil. Directly to the right is Brenda's Beauty and Emerald Necklace.
I don't know what the little gold one in there is.

Mr Blue this season. The one that had been the biggest isn't doing too well - I think the chipmunks may be getting under it.
This is in my side garden.
