Daily Hosta - 'Halcyon'
Name: H. 'Halcyon' (or at least we THINK it is 'Halcyon')
Description: Chalky, powdery blue in spring, turning deep blue in the summer, and holding up well in the fall. Heart-shaped and heavily ribbed leaves form a neat, symmetrical mound.
Size: Small (23"w x 21"h)
Origin: H. 'Tardiflora' x H. sieboldiana 'Elegans'
Flowers: Pale lavender flowers in late summer.
Added to garden: late 1990's
Notes: One of my first hostas. Identification is probable, but not positive. Thanks to members of Dave's Garden who, given the alternatives, decided on 'Halcyon'. This one has been a slow grower for me, but I divided it up a couple of years ago to try it in two different locations. It is very easy to divide - literally falling apart when lifted.

Re: Daily Hosta - 'Halcyon'
I divided a large Halcyon that I won on Ebay 3 years ago and planted them under my huge oak tree out back where they receive no direct sun at all. They were quite a bit larger this year, but I don't have any pics. This is from the spring of 2011. I'm tempted to move them this fall to give them some more space.

Mine in 2014. Limited growth. I'm posting 2 pics. The first is my original plant. A number of years back I divided it to see if it would grow more quickly in a different location. It didn't. If anything, the growth has been slower. They were about the same size when I divided them.

Re: Daily Hosta - 'Halcyon'
After I posted last year, I moved the newer division pictured above and I think it has done better but not as well as the original. This is the original division. 2015-Aug. 02. Incidentally, this division now gets much more afternoon sun than previously because of trees lost to Emerald Ash Borer and you can see that in it's colour. Much less blue than my other division or in previous years.
And this is the division from it in its new location. July 25.
Both of my divisions bloomed earlier than they have usually bloomed for me. This is the second division blooming on July 25.

2017 update
The division with more sun Aug. 5 The other division Aug. 15. This one also is farther from the tree; so effectively gets more moisture and is growing faster.
