Anybody got any pretty leaves.

Post by oldcoot »

OC's yard is FULL of leaves, all dead and brown. No color anywhere. If he GETS any rain anytime soon, it will be too late. Sure will miss them because his yard is ringed with Dogwoods which are usually a beautiful shade of Red, have already fallen. Sure hope we didn't also loose the trees.

Sp post away so OC can get his annual leaf FIX....John

Same here John. In fact, my lilac bush dropped most of it's leaves a month ago. It not only leafed out again, but I now have a few lilac blooms on it. Go figure. This weather is just strange this year.

I have seen a few trees that are turning. But not a whole lot.

he has leaves falling like a windstorm. Blowing every where.and a row of Cannas he back to the ground, cut back to the ground is now in full bloom. When OC watered the IRIS in the bed, the Cannas are at the very back, he guesses the Cannas thought it was Spring. Never know about plants do you.

Thanks for the call Lucy, look forward to your pictures.

Pretty leaves

I'd been hankering after a Vine Maple & I guess it was the leaves on this one, that I saw in a little pot at a nursery a few days ago, that made me buy it.

Vine Maple

Post by Herb »

Whether it grows more like a vine or a tree depends (I've read) on where Vine Maple (Acer circinatum) is growing. I've read that in the forest, in deep shade, it grows very much like a vine, but given enough light it grows into a small tree. But I don't think it likes full sun.

It's native to much of the west coast. It's the nearest, perhaps, that we have to Acer palmatum. There's a sub-variety of it that has deeper cut leaves than this one, and I think there's a dwarf form too.
