Beautiful Sam! The one I have is Rhus typhina-Staghorn Sumac 'Dissecta'. The 'Dissecta" form looks very much like the Japanese Maples. I was going to take a pic today, but it's still hasn't quite changed yet.
Deb, your talking about the common sumac, Rhus copallina-Flameleaf (shining) Sumac. It's usually a little redder than the Staghorn.
Sis, they ALL sucker. It's just a matter of pulling a few shoots in the spring.......although they may be half way acrossa the yard.

Yip ... mine is a staghorn, and yip, they DO sucker, but are easily pulled up (sometimes a few feet away admittedly)
Dawgy ... methinks Wee Debs suddenly saw her bank account increasing at a considerable rate sufficent to pay for her new tiller

Debs ... I got mine for NOTHING

A nice Tennessee native. Roadsides are "normally" beautiful with them this time of year.
Not much fall color this year due to drought.
Thanks for the memories Sam !
