My DH took this photo in June, but I never saw it until today. This is either a Rufous or an Annas hummingbird eating dinner at my Dierama plant that hangs over our pond in the back yard.
They absolutely go crazy for my Dierama, hardy Fuchsias, and Salvia 'Lady in Red.
If you look closely, the hummer isn't flying, it's actually perched on the stem. It sat there for about 2 minutes before flying away, long enough for my DH to get the camera and take several good shots. I think that's the first time I've ever seen one sit still for that long. Of course, I had completely forgotten that my DH had taken the photos until I was going stir crazy and looking through photos a few days ago
Wow great shot, if I were to ever see one around here, I would probably forget all about taking a picture. Have seen one in all the time I have lived in this area
Where are we going? AND why am I in this basket???
That is a great picture, he was in the right place at the right time, lucky guy! Really interesting shot, with the hummingbird perched and feeding. Thanks for sharing it!
