Total newbie here and there are so many of the older ones I don't have that I suppose my list isn;t very exciting to most of you. I am also on a VERY limited budget (gawd I hate home repairs!) but I am excited and I think it will be a fun way to start. So far I have ordered:

AUTUMN WOOD
DARLA ANITA
ED BROWN
LITTLE RAINBOW
MY HONEY CHILD

Several seedlings:
JOHN PEAT X AWESOME BOB
RAGE OF PARIS X AWESOME BOB
VELVET BEADS X PAINTING THE ROSES RED

And a bunch of seeds that I am starting.

My wish list is so long I am almost embarrassed to post it, but the ones I would like to get *someday* when budget allows are:

ALEXA KATHERYN
ANCIENT WISDOM
AUTUMN MEMORIES
CATCHER IN THE EYE
CHINESE CLOISONNE
COPPERHEAD ROAD
DE COLORES
INHERITED WEALTH
JANE MAHAN
JOHN PEAT
JERRY NETTLES
LADY BETTY FRETZ
LIES AND LIPSTICK
LIVING IN LUXURY
POPCORN PETE
RAINBOW'S GLORY
RAGE OF PARIS
SC PEACH FRINGE
SC TROPICAL PASSION
VICTORIAN LACE (jaydee's photos have convinced me I *need*this one! )
VIOLET VEIL

Thanks for giving me inspiration everyone! I am not ready to take that step to SPUFs yet.... but maybe someday

Hi Alexa

I love your wish list, do not worry about what you can or can not afford, the price will come down with time, & time has a way of weeding out the not worthy.

I never buy newbies.
First of all I always worry about hardiness, secondly I find my money goes further by buying proven older ones, and lastly newer does not always mean better.

Some daylily's stand out years after introduction because they end up being superior plants.

I also noticed daylily picture's from some hybridizer's sites do not match the picture's being posted by growers. hmmmm :-?

I also noticed that lesser know hybridizer' plants sell for less than the more well known. The plants are just as good or better, also the price comes down much faster.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and have been growing daylilies for over 20 years. Don't feel bad about ordering the older varieties. In my opinion they are much more garden worthy than many of the newer one's especially coming out of the south. They are just too frilly and too orchid-like for me. Almost too tropical. Some of the color combinations I love, but I just have a hard time with the forms. I'll stick with the cultivars that will fit in with my more cottage garden look.

Welcome to Hallson's, bleulily!! I see your in Brooklyn. You are not far from Hallson's nursery. Have you ever been there? It's a great place, and the owners are the best!!!

I am still trying to get my list pinned down....it is sooo hard when you have not much room!

Again, Welcome! :P

Welcome bleulily and now show us your gardens. We love pics here!

caliloo- great choices on your wish list. JERRY NETTLES and ALEXA KATHERYN are similar so maybe just pick one of them. DECLORES is very pretty but it is a dip spuf and with multiple blooms open, the scapes tip over. If you want that look, try for a tet spuf. Here is a picture of LIVING IN LUXURY

Image I love the pleating in the throat.

Here is SPACECOAST CATCHER IN THE EYE - it is a very distinct bloom with the appliqued throat - once you see this bloom you will recognize it anywhere.

You have some great seedlings on your list. PAINTING THE ROSES RED has proven to be an excellent parent as has JOHN PEAT. You could have some winners here.

Hey Alexa,

I want all of those too!!! Well, except for the few I have.
I'm still waiting for my CHINESE CLOISONNE to bloom, this will be it's 3rd year, in a shady spot.
Also, I'm still waiting to see what all the hoolabala is about Ed Brown. :-? It bloomed finally last year, one scape. I hope it takes off this year. It is in a premo spot.
Darla Anita is fantastic in all areas that I can see.
Love the seedlings your getting, looks like you were into the darker colors.

JayDee, lovely pictures as always. I don't have any with pleating that I know of.

bleulily - Welcome. You will have to let us know what cultivars you grow. Are you getting any new ones to the garden this year?

I would love to show you pictures but they seem to be too big and I don't know how to make them smaller. Any suggestions would be helpful. I took over 800 pictures last summer of my daylilies alone, but I promise I won't show them all!!

No, I've never been there and didn't know it even existed until I was on the Garden Watchdog site. I'm looking so forward to their opening this year, I'll definitely be there!! And undoubtedly spending alot of money I don't have.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone!

jaydee that LIL is just gorgeous and I can see the diamond dusting on it. Now I *really* want it!

And SC CATCHER IN THE EYE is just gorgeous.

Bleulily, welcome! I use a photo hosting site (Photobucket) which is free and lets you resize the photos once they are loaded there. Maybe give that a try.

I am excited about the seedlings - there are several of each cross coming and I can't WAIT to get them in the ground! I suspect they won't bloom this year, but hopefully they will put on a show next year.

More photos from everyone please!

after you have it, right click on your pictures and you can reduce the size of picture so you can post them
