Japanese Iris - how much sun/shade?

Post by Wheasie »

Hello all -

MANY months since I've been on the forum. Moved last summer (brought ALL my hostas with me). Got 3 Japanese iris off of eBay. I know that SUN is the name of the game for these guys but I have a nice damp area that will get about 4 hours sun. Is this enough?

JI's love damp conditions, but they are going to want more sun than that - minimum six hours of full sun a day to thrive and give good bloom. Sorry...

I figured as much but was just hoping that I could get by with this. They're too gorgeous to NOT have them bloom at their optimal capacity!

You might try some louisiana irises in that spot and see if they will bloom. I know they often like part shade. I. tectorum is another that might do well there.
