I was given a slip of the above plant with instructions to plant it in the sun. Which I did. While surfing the net I find numerous reference to the plant being a magnet for metallic flea beetle which cannot always be successfully treated for removal.
Since this plant will be close to a crawlspace vent and in a bed of mostly hosta and evergreens I am wondering if it is wise to keep the plant. I also have a small dog so treating with harsh chemical is out of the question.
Everyone I've ever known to grow this plant has regretted it because it is so invasive. I don't plan on ever trying it for that reason, so you might want to consider that aspect of it too.
I've also read many warning's about how invasive this plant is, but mine died. I had wanted to grow it to make wreaths using it with bittersweet vines and berries.
I planted this and even though I do like it I now see how invasive it can be. I think I'm going to have to re-do some of the bed it's in next spring to try and better control it.
I would have to warn you to be careful with this one. I planted one small piece about 10 years ago and it went everywhere!!!!!!!
In fact I found a couple pieces of it this year when weeding. It must through seeds for miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the few I ever regret planting
