Do those snakes eat toads too? I seem to have a lot of both this year (and a lot of rain too).

Judging by the size of the plant, I assume that's a python or an anaconda?

If I walked out and saw that on my hosta, I wouldn't go back out alone again. I am terrified of snakes.......

Black snakes and garter snakes used to occasionally eat the pet toads that I kept in the window wells at our house when we were growing up. My dad had to remind me that it was just how nature works . . . but I never have liked it. I've been able to attract and transplant a lot of toads into our gardens since we moved in, and I love seeing the big fat toads and not seeing big fat slugs!

On the other hand those snakes keep the rodent population down in the garden! They're welcome in my garden anytime as long as I don't step on them :D

I can't argue with that, Molly (although my wife may not agree)! Believe it or not, I have never seen a snake in my yard since I've been in my current house (seven years now!). That is amazing to me, as we always had snakes around my other houses, and we are surrounded by fields in this house.

I can lend you some  There is a resident one in my main daylily bed, another under our steps, another in the hosta beds and occassionally I see extras around.

Yesterday I found a really big toad (needed two hands to hold him). Hope the snakes don't get him!

I know they are good to have around, but if I saw a snake on one of my plants I would totally freak out!!!  I have always been terrified of them. I can put up with the spiders, mice, etc. but a snake sends me fleeing.

When I was younger I used to have a snake and a couple of birds that would follow me through the garden and as I picked off worms and bugs I would toss them to them. They had to move fast ... I love having snakes in the garden. I have a very fond memory of my older brother being especially like "an older brother" one day in the garden as I'm trying to pick green beans for supper and the snake climbed up his pant leg ... it was so funny seeing my brother dance around and finally having to peel his pants down to get it out of his britches! I scooped up the lovely garter snake and returned him to a safe spot in the garden and stood with a hoe defending it from my brother who wanted to get his revenge on it.
Garter snakes are non-poisonous and are more frightened of us than we are of them.
