Blue Cadet and Carder Blue have been good growers for me and are smaller than Halcyon. I am guessing it is Blue Cadet.

Halcyon is my guess. Do you have June, El Nino, First Frost, Devon Green, or June Fever? They flower at the same time and look the same.

I took a walk yesterday and compared the blooms on Halcyon, Camelot, Fragrant Blue, Hadspen Blue and others, plus looked at clump sizes and leaf shapes. I also don't think it is Halcyon since the leaves tend to be more spear shaped with less rounding at the base, the leaves tend to cascade and don't have any upward cupping, and there is a little more purple-grey spotting on the Halcyon scapes than others. Clump size of yours is too small to be Halcyon. Fragrant Blue has different flowers. I also agree this is something from the Tardiana group, but I don't think it is one that I currently grow.

This really shows how similar the Tardiana group and its seedlings/hybrids can be - really tough to tell some of them apart.

It looks like my Blue Cadet, except mine bloomed about a month ago here in zone 5.

Hi, and thanks to everyone who tried to help me ID this plant
I looked up Blue Cadet & Blue Moon in the hosta library, the plant I have is to big to fit the description of either of them although they both look like mine.
I am beginning to think that some hosta's like some daylilies look so similar that it would be almost impossible to ID unless by chance a known named cultivate of the same variety was planted in the same garden.
I throw a name tag in the planting hole now, so I should have less problems in the future with plant ID's

My thought was Blue Jay. Mine has that same blush of blue & similar leaf shape.

Halcyon.
There are many different types of Halcyon on the market (all kind of TC-Types). Looks pretty cool and a lot like the "original" Halcyon (in my opinion).

I found two tags in the garage identifying this one as 'Pacific Blue Edger" the picture and description on the tags match this one to a tee.

Found a web site that also described it size wise to what I measured
This is the discription from that site
Pacific Blue Edger
Height 12 in Width 26 in Height to top of flower 26 in
Shade

Thanks everyone for the help, I need to do a better job using ID tags.

You know, Ed - I keep looking at that hosta of yours & thinking it's not Pacific Blue Edger. I have 7 of them, and they've all been in their spots since 2003. It does get a bit of midday dappled sun there, but they have never been as blue as that hosta. And the foliage is so much thicker/fuller on PBE even after a couple of years. Mine just don't have the look of that hosta. I'll look to see if I took an individual pic of one of the PBEs. They are in that pic I posted of montana Aureomarginata on the 'Best looking hosta' post I did recently. But I don't know how much you can really see them in those pics.

Hi Ren
I guess if it's not Pacific Blue Edger, I will never know what it is.
I only have two smaller blue hosta's, and those are the ones I first posted in this thread, early morning sun, then shade for the rest of the day.
The tags do not fit any other hosta in my yard either, so I don't have any comparison plants to check out.

Have you seen the pics of blue jay ?
And when my hadspen heron was smaller, the leaves were more rounded. Now they are more mature and sl more pointed. Look at the pics on the library.

jgh has been out in the sun a lot recently... which might account for his writing a reply without realizing that there was a whole second page to this thread and we started it last year... so let me start over...

I don't think a positive identification is probably ever possible, given the number of similar plants in the tardiana grex... nonetheless, I'm going to suggest Blue Cadet. I have different experience with this one than that described by Zilis. He says it is not the bluest but a good hosta. I've found that mine holds a very good blue when grown in complete shade. The leaves remain smaller than Halcyon.

You mention the description as being too small... actually, when left undisturbed, Blue Cadet keeps on growing. The leaves remain relatively small, but my clump is right at 38" diameter this year. Leaves are very consistent at 4 1/2" by 5 1/2"

Blue Jay - ruled out by the comment "good grower" - BJ is a great shade of blue, but is a very slow grower...

Pacific Blue Edger? - went out to check that out and realized that poor, addle-brained jgh can't remember where his is...
