Radiant Star is growing up!

Post by Chris_W »

I'm happy to report that Radiant Star is growing up and will be available in the spring. It has been a long trip from discovery to registration to TC to market, but it will finally be available in good numbers in 2011. That will make it 6 years from discovery to market, which is actually a reasonable turnaround, I think. Hard to believe I've even been doing this THAT LONG!

This tray left to go to another nursery recently too.

Radiant Star continues to be one of the most asked about plants here, next to Wings of a Prayer. Per a little prodding from Don Rawson we are going to try and get Wings of a Prayer into culture soon too :D

Thanks for looking!

Hey Paul, do you remember when I showed you this little sport years ago? You were visiting and were one of the first people to see it. I had it potted up and still attached to the Radiant Edger that it sported from. I was pretty geeked about it, I'm sure

I know, it really doesn't seem that long ago, does it! But I have pictures of it from 2005 in the pot and then pictures of it and its own sport in the ground in 2006. Man, time sure flies!

Lookin good Chris. Of course, I can go out and look at that tray right now if I want to. :D I'm thinking they will probably be ready for 2011. Thanks for letting me purchase them for my Canadian customers Chris. I'm sure they will be thrilled!

Awesome!

What a great looking little hosta! Put me down for one in 2011, too. I'll have a Wings of Prayer when it is available, too!

Way to go, Chris!

Chris, I'm new to the forum, but I just saw your post on the Radiant Star and I see everybody saying they want one for next spring, I would also like to reserve one for next spring but there has to be more to it than just saying, I want one. Chris, what exactly is the correct procedure to reserve one of these Radiant Stars for next spring? Thanks, Mike Burke

Radiant Star is just a dandy little hosta! And when I saw Wings of a Prayer, that snow white edge really stands out! Two great hostas with great names! Go for it, Chris.

Welcome to the forum Mike. Normally I would tell people to just wait until the 2011 listing is online and then place your order, but since there seems to be enough interest with this one I will add it to our catalog soon and start taking orders for the spring. I will repost here when I'm ready.

Thank you again for all the encouragement :)

Thanks to the generosity of Chris and Brian, I have one that I got for being next-to-last in the hosta swap at the get-together.
The 'other Linda P' and I had the last two numbers called, and Chris put in a couple of Radiant Star for the last two picks..
How nice! It's a great looking little hosta!

 Don't worry Rosemarie. I had 1,000 tissue cultures done, probably had 900 plants at the beginning of this summer, so I should have enough for next spring :D

Glad to hear you have a lot of those for next year. I really liked seeing those in person at the gathering and it's on my list for next year! Great job Chris!
