Streaky seedling

Chris, remember that packet of Don Quixote seed I got a few weeks back? It only had about 4-5 seeds, and so far I only have one seedling from it...but, it's my first streaky one!

Wow Laura, that's fantastic!

I collected about 5 seed pods from Don Quixote so it was really surprising and disappointing to only find those 4 or 5 plump seeds in them, total! But that's terrific that you got one of them to sprout. I'm so happy for you

The pressure's on to keep it going now, so good luck!

Oh, this one will be watched v-e-r-y closely, lol!

I hope I get more germination but that tray has been going for about 3-4 weeks now (I think since 12/12).

I'm still hoping to get more from some other seeds that were given to me. Nothing from my own garden is showing any signs of much yet. I've got some pale ones that are probably fatal whites, from Lakeside Elfin Fire, but the leaves aren't properly up yet, so maybe they'll have some green on them yet.

I should have asked...is this one tough to get pods on generally?

We talked about it earlier in the year, but I can't find that thread now. But yes, people reported having problems getting it to set seed, so I was excited when I got pods. Maybe next year I'll tend it a little more and see if I can get more seeds to go in those pods

Chris been very patient with mine for 3 yrs now crosses to itself and others and have never got one yet.Next year the bees will have to try see if that works.

I'm thinking about letting the bees do most of the work for me next year. This year I did my first crosses in sugar water. I did not get a large number of seeds, and so far, better germination on the OP seeds. I think the plants do a better job of plumping up the seeds, and I don't have time to do much during the week with work. I will probably try a few by hand though. I'm just learning still, and probably won't have a "method" sorted out for a few seasons. I don't want to make it too much work or I won't do it at all.

Laura that's amazing when you consider the odds.....good going, hope it keeps up.....seems to have a lovely color to it so far.
