2013 Orders

Post by ogrefcf »

Well I put in my order with Chris yesterday. I usually wait, but didn't want to miss out on some Hostas. Here's what I got:
Hosta 'Jurassic Park', Hosta 'Rainbow's End', Hosta 'Radiant Star', Hosta 'Abba Dabba Do', Hosta 'Rubies and Ruffles, Hosta 'Brother Stefan', Hosta 'Diamond Tiara', Hosta 'Eye Declare', Hosta 'Kiwi Full Monty', Hosta 'Montana Aureomarginata' , Hosta 'Old Glory', Hosta 'Tokudama Aureonebulosa', Hosta 'Twist of Lime'. I'm sure I'll end up adding more. I made three new beds this year. Need to make a map and start to figure where things are going. Anyone else put in any orders or thinking about it?

I've looked...but making myself NOT order. I have so many out in the nursery bed that will need to go into their permanent homes this year, and no idea where to put them. There are so many interesting ones available for the first time this year, it's hard not to order!
Great choices, Owen.

I agree. Great choices, Owen. But I'm not ordering anything at the moment. Also have some in a nursery bed and have a pile of seeds to start and limited space. But I have been compiling a list of those whose days in my garden are numbered.

Yeah, most my beds are filling up and I have almost no yard left to make into more Hosta beds . I might have to start doing seedlings to pass the winter months. Phil I agree, but the foot of snow in my backyard keeps laughing at me. The Hosta's need a good sleep after the short warm winter we had last year. Hoping for some good growth!

I do not have h. Rubies and Ruffles, h. Diamond Tiara and h. Eye Declare rest of them are really good hostas.
Tokudama aureomaginata is slow so it do not need much space the first years :-)

Not a word about the growt rate of h. Atlantis and h. Brother Stephan

Yes it can be hard when you can not go out in the garden.
This year seem to be warmer than usual after the hard frost week, so just come and help weding my garden :D

I have 'Brother Stefan' and have found it to be a good grower.

I love Bro Stephan. I already have one in the front yard and ordered another because I like it so much. Been a good grower for me. When I got it from Chris in 2011 it was a single eye with three to four large leaves. This is what it looks like a year later. Bad picture, late in the season and in a lot of sun, but all I could find.

Sorry, my mistake
YES, - BS and Atlantis grow like weed
Didn't you lack space Owen ?????????
Dear son moved it 10 inch late summer, it was starting to take over a path... and will in a few years, but then ... it's just in an other year

Like you, we couldn't wait any longer. We placed our order on New Year's Eve - it was more fun than a loud party! We order from multiple vendors but would much prefer to get them all from Hallsons. By far they are the healthiest plants we get anywhere. This year we've ordered the following from Chris: Americana, Bulletproof, Gone With The Wind, Irish Luck, Jurassic Park, Lionheart, Mayflower Moon, Prairie Moon, Shade Finale and Ultramarine. Now all we have to do is learn some patience; waiting until they get here is the hard part!

I'm like Linda and decided to not order yet. I added too many hostas last year and had to overwinter a few still in their pots. So I'm TRYING to slow down, home the new ones and weed out a few disappointments this spring, and reward myself with purchases at the annual get-together. Hope to see y'all there!

I got an order in to Chris. I also usually wait, but what the heck, better sooner than later! I ordered H. Lionheart,H. Climax,H. Neptune and H. Afterglow. of course that is so far. We will see how that goes. I have been checking on all the new Hosta and Heuchera, so we'll see! :hmm:
